This magnificent helmet is crafted as a highly authentic replica based on a historical find from the amphitheatre in the French city of Besançon. This type of helmet, classified in modern typology as the Imperial Gallic, formed the standard and highly effective head protection of Roman legionaries during the early Imperial period. The embossed eyebrow motif is clearly visible on the steel skull, which mechanically strengthened the helmet while serving a daunting aesthetic function. The front is protected by a sturdy brow guard, and the distinctive hinged cheek pieces are decorated with ornamental brass rosettes. The broad, sloped neck guard at the rear reliably shielded the neck from slashing blows, and it is equipped with a practical brass ring at the top for easy suspension of the armour during long infantry marches. The interior of the skull features a protective black coating.
